Επειδή ανακάλυψα τώρα ένα βιβλίο που με ενθουσίασε, το 3ο που αναφέρεται, παρουσιάζω και 2 ακόμα, για να υπάρχει μια εικόνα της φρέσκιας βιβλιοπαραγωγής του 2008.

Ένα πολύ καλό βιβλίο, στην γνώριμη γραφή του καθηγητή Parker, που αναμειγνύει ιστορία της ψυχολογίας με φουκωϊκή προοπτική, μεταμοντέρνες και φεμινιστικές θεωρίες με ψυχανάλυση, για να μας δώσει ένα κριτικό παράδειγμα και για πρώτη φορά (τουλάχιστον απο τα βιβλία του που έχω διαβάσει εγώ), να συζητήσει εκτενώς τις εναλλακτικές και το «άλλο» παράδειγμα στην κυρίαρχη ψυχολογία, το παραδειγμα που αναδύεται από τα «αριστερά».

Dimitris Papadopoulos teaches social theory at Cardiff University, UK. He is co-editor of the journal Subjectivity and his work has appeared in various journals including Boundary 2; Culture, Theory & Critique; Darkmatter; and Ephemera.

Niamh Stephenson teaches social science at the University of New South Wales, Australia. Her most recent book, Analysing Everyday Experience: Social Research and Political Change (2006), was co-authored with Dimitris Papadopoulos.

Vassilis Tsianos teaches sociology at the University of Hamburg, Germany. He is co-editor of Empire and the Biopolitical Turn (2007) and Turbulent Margins: New Perspectives of Migration in Europe (2007).

Κριτική: Αφού αυτό είναι και το μόνο απο τα 3 που διάβασα με προσοχή – το 3ο δεν το έχω καν στα χέρια μου – θα τολμήσω να πω ότι αυτό είναι ένα πολύ προκλητικό για την σύγχρονη ψυχολογία – όχι μόνο για τα κριτικά ρεύματα – βιβλίο, καθώς, ξεκινώντας από το μετα-αυτόνομο αξίωμα ότι «η αντίσταση (των ανθρώπων) προηγείται του ελέγχου», προσεγγίζει θεωρητικά το καθεστώς του ελέγχου του 21ου αιώνα και δείχνει πως οι άνθρωποι, όπως σε παλιότερους αιώνες, επιθυμούν, επιδιώκουν και αγωνίζονται να αποδράσουν από αυτόν. Παρουσιάζει και περιοδολογεί την θεσμοθέτηση του ελέγχου ανά τον 20ο αιώνα, δείχνοντας πως από την εθνική κυριαρχία περάσαμε στην δια-εθνική διακυβέρνηση και σήμερα βρισκόμαστε στην φάση των οριζόντιων μετα-φιλελεύθερων συναθροίσεων, και πως οι άνθρωποι, σε διάφορες εποχές, από το Μεσαίωνα ως τη μετανάστευση, αποδρούν από τον έλεγχο. Δείχνει πως η imperceptible (πως να μεταφράζεται τώρα αυτό;) πολιτική, που εδράζεται στο σώμα και επιδιώκει να ξεφεύγει της αντιπροσώπευσης στην επίσημη πολιτική αρένα είναι το εργαλείο απόδρασης για τους ανθρώπους από τον έλεγχο.
Αυτό που είναι προκλητικά ενδιαφέρον είναι η εισαγωγή της process theory του Α.Ν Whitehead στην πιάτσα των ψυχολογικών εξηγήσεων – τουλάχιστον για εμάς τους επαρχιώτες – για να επιχειρηθεί μια , μια θεωρία που εισάγοντας την προοπτικής της συνεχούς αλλαγής, γίγνεσθαι και διαδικασίας, ξεφεύγει από τον καρτεσιανό δυϊσμό και τις μηχανιστικές εξηγήσεις..
Για να μην μακρυγορούμε, το βιβλίο εξετάζει το ζήτημα της μετανάστευσης ως εξόδου και απόδρασης από τον έλεγχο των συνόρων, από την σκοπιά της θεωρίας της αυτονομίας της μετανάστευσης – για να δείξει ότι οι μετανάστ-ρι-ες με την ροή της επιθυμίας τους αλλάζουν οι ίδιοι και αλλάζουν τις κοινωνίες απ’ όπου περνάνε, σε ένα διαρκές ταξίδι του γίγνεσθαι που δεν τελειώνει ποτέ. Δείχνει επίσης πως οι εργαζόμενοι/ες, μέσω των imperceptible politics αποδρούν από την επισφαλή συνθήκη εργασίας στις κοινωνίες του Δυτικού κόσμου, αποδρούν μέσα από τις μη-απαλλοτριώσιμες κοινωνικές σχέσεις που σχηματίζουν πέρα από τις σχέσεις εκμετάλλευσης της εργασίας, σχέσεις αλληλοβοήθειας και αλληλουποστήριξης.
Κλείνοντας αυτή την ευνοϊκή κριτική, να σημειώσω το μόνο μειονέκτημα, κατ’ εμέ, την απουσία πολλών παραδειγμάτων, στα θέματα της μετανάστευσης και της επισφάλειας, που να διαφωτίζουν και να τεκμηριώνουν την πλουσιότατη θεωρία.

3. Billig, M. The Hidden Roots of Critical Psychology: Understanding the Impact of Locke, Shaftesbury and Reid (London: Sage) 232p.

Today new forms of critical psychology are challenging the cognitive revolution that has dominated psychology for the past three decades. This book explores the historical roots of these new psychologies. It demonstrates that their ideas are not quite as new as is often supposed.

In the early modern period, thinkers like the earl of Shaftesbury and Thomas Reid reacted against Locke’s cognitive psychology in ways that were surprisingly modern, if not post-modern. However, Shaftesbury and Reid have been virtually written out of psychology’s history. It is now time to recognize the great originality of their psychological thinking. Writing in a non-technical style, Michael Billig seeks to overturn the dominant views of psychology’s history. In so doing, he gives a fascinating account of the times, bringing psychology’s hidden past vividly back to life.

Insightful and entertaining, The Hidden Roots of Critical Psychology is aimed at undergraduate and graduate students studying conceptual and historical issues in psychology. The book’s highly original argument should also appeal to psychologists more generally and to specialists in the history of ideas.

Αυτό το βιβλίο με ενθουσίασε και το περιμένω πως και πως, όπως και όλη η συγγραφική παραγωγή του Billig. Αυτός ο συγγραφέας καταφέρνει να στέκεται απέναντι στα σύγχρονα «μοντέρνα» ρεύματα της ψυχολογίας και να τους ασκεί κριτική που αντλεί από την ιστορία (πχ αθηναϊκή ρητορική, και εδώ μεσαιωνική αγγλική γραμματεία) και να την θέτει μέσα στην καλύτερη αγγλική θεωρητική βιβλιογραφία των κοινωνικών επιστημών. Καταφέρνει πάντα να διευρύνει τους ορίζοντες της ψυχολογίας, ανακαλύπτοντας τα κενά της και να τα διευρύνει, παίρνοντας μια φωνή εκτός του κυρίαρχου παραδείγματος. Και όλο αυτό με ένα απλό, γεμάτο χιούμορ, στυλ γραφής που είναι πολύ ευχάριστο στην ανάγνωση.
